The Guayepo I and II Solar Parks, developed by Enel Green Power, are significant projects in Colombia's energy transition. Located in the Atlántico department, these solar parks mark an essential step toward increasing the country's renewable energy production. They contribute to the decarbonization of the national energy matrix and help reduce CO2 emissions.
Project Phases
Guayepo Solar Park construction began in 2022, with the first stone laid, and reached a crucial milestone in July 2024, with the last solar panel installation. With a total capacity of 486.7 MW, Guayepo I and II will generate enough electricity to supply approximately 800,000 Colombian homes, reinforcing Enel Colombia's commitment to clean energy.
In this regard, Eugenio Calderón, Enel Green Power manager for Colombia and Central America, stated:
"The construction of Guayepo I and II reinforces Enel Green Power's leadership in Colombia and our commitment to a renewable energy future. This project is an example of how the energy transition is underway and how we can work together to achieve meaningful change in the country".
Innovation and Technology in Action
The park has more than one million state-of-the-art solar panels, which allow for the efficient capture of solar radiation. In addition, it uses solar tracking systems that optimize the orientation of the panels throughout the day, increasing energy production. This technology is critical to improving energy efficiency and reducing long-term operating costs.
Commenting on the implementation of this technology, Eugenio Calderón said:
"This project also allows us to implement advanced technology that increases the efficiency of the plant, maximizing the energy generated by each panel. It is an example of Enel's commitment to innovation and sustainability".
Commitment to Local Communities
One of the pillars of the Guayepo project is its commitment to the social and economic development of local communities. During the construction phase, more than 1,500 jobs were generated, directly benefiting the inhabitants of the department of Atlántico. In addition, Enel Colombia launched training programs in renewable energy and improved local infrastructure, contributing to the well-being of the community during the construction period.
Guayepo I and II will not only bring clean, renewable energy to Colombia but will also contribute to global sustainability and emissions reduction goals. With Enel Green Power's experience and commitment, Colombia is moving towards a greener future, taking advantage of its solar potential to ensure a dependable and environmentally friendly electricity supply.
