In collaboration with Enel X and Riba
Enel X, our line of business dedicated to innovative products and digital solutions, in collaboration with Enel Distribuição São Paulo and Riba, an e-mobility company, developed a meal delivery system for the community of Paraisopolis in the southern zone of São Paulo.
With the provision of electric scooters and the hiring of delivery drivers, we will reduce the logistics cost of delivering meals produced within the same community and which are being donated to the area’s residents during the pandemic. The initiative is part of our campaign #JuntosNaMesmaEnergia (in English, Together in the Same Energy), a set of initiatives focused on the prevention and fight against Covid-19 in Brazil.
“We have been working in collaboration with Paraisopolis for many years and, during this pandemic, we understand the need to support and contribute to the community with different actions developed by the local leadership. The daily donation of meals, already prepared by the community, is one of the actions that we feel passionate about. For this reason, and considering food to be one of the basic necessities, we provided four electric scooters and hired delivery drivers from within the community to work for three months within this important initiative,” highlights Solange Mello, leader of Sustainability Projects at Enel Distribuição São Paulo.
Paraisópolis was selected based on the community's participation in our “Enel Compartilha Liderança em Rede” project (in English, Enel Shares Leadership Network), in addition to the robust organization process to prepare meals for the community’s residents.
This project is developed upon the conceptual pillars of sustainable sources and focuses on the use of renewable energies as an alternative to non-renewable fossil fuels. It also promotes the sharing of electric vehicles and circular economy within the community.
How the initiative will work
Four electric scooters, that have been designed for the area’s geography, will be made available to the community for a period of three months. The electric scooters will be used by delivery drivers from the same community, who will be hired and paid for their work. These drivers will be responsible for delivering free meals to families, in an initiative that will be fully funded by us and by Enel X. The reduction in logistics costs will enable a greater number of deliveries, and it is estimated that the initiative will make up to 10,000 meal deliveries per month.
In addition to providing a free delivery system for the community, the electric scooters will be noise- and pollution-free. The vehicles’ battery has a range of 70km, and each scooter will come with a back-up battery.
“These electric scooters will really help our meal delivery logistics, in order to bring food faster to those in need. And also to pick up donations and other things we need to help the people during this pandemic,” says Gilson Rodrigues, president of the Paraisopolis Residents and Business Union.
