Thanks to Enel’s positioning to proactively incorporate the energy sector’s rapid changes into its strategic plan, as well as its leadership in innovation and sustainability, the company was awarded the prestigious Platts Global Energy Awards for Industry Leadership in the Power sector
Rome, December 12th, 2016 – Enel has won the Platts Global Energy Awards (GEA) in the category “Industry Leadership Award - Power”. Platts praised the company’s proactivity in its positioning to incorporate the energy sector’s rapid changes into its strategic plan, as well as its leadership in innovation and sustainability, noting that the Group's goal to achieve zero carbon emission by 2050 is “within reach”.
“This recognition of our leadership in the electricity sector reflects the momentum we have been building over the last two and a half years in transforming Enel into an ‘Open Power’ company: innovative, sustainable and forward-looking," commented Enel CEO and General Manager Francesco Starace. "This award is an acknowledgement of the hard work and dedication of all of our colleagues in more than 30 countries around the world, without whom of course none of the progress we are making as a business would be possible. This award is dedicated to them."
The set of criteria against which Enel was evaluated were: company profile, financial results, innovation, operational excellence, safety, security and strategic vision. The judges acknowledged Enel’s pioneering spirit, ambitious goals and commitment to sustainability. As around 50% of the energy generated by Enel is carbon-free, the independent panel praised the company as a world leader in clean energy production. Judges were also impressed by Enel’s ability to digitise the grid in its mature markets while leading the digital movement in emerging markets. With Enel and Nissan’s first fully commercial vehicle-to-grid hub now operating in Denmark, judges further praised Enel for being “farther along than others” with this groundbreaking battery aggregate technology.
The Industry Leadership Award – Power is open to all power producers, utilities, integrated power producers, system operators and regional market entities. This year, judges evaluated each nominee’s successful development and implementation of a strategic plan that optimises performance and growth while taking an aggressive, proactive approach toward a radically altered business and trading environment. In addition to considering the three-year track record of an entrant, judges looked for evidence of industry-wide impact since January 2015.
Now in its 18th edition, the Platts GEA has been described by past entrants and winners as both the "World Series" and "Academy Awards" of energy. The prestigious award is handed out each year by Platts, since 1909 the leading global provider of energy and metals information. Platts receives more than 200 GEA nominations each year from 25 countries including Brazil, India, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Russia, Switzerland, Argentina, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, United Kingdom and the United States
