The educational centres that received kits were: ‘Máximo Heraclio’ Educational Institution, ‘Monseñor Luis Pacheco’ Educational Institution, ‘Santa Elena’ Educational Institution No. 20487 and ‘Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro’ Special Educational Centre. The educational institutions that received packs were: ‘Las Mercedes’ Educational Institution No. 1075, ‘Las Peñitas’ Educational Institution No. 1072, ‘Santa Rita de Casia’ Non-Standard Initial Education, ‘Sarita Colonia’ Non-Standard Initial Education, ‘Jesús María’ Institutional Education No. 605 and ‘San Judas Tadeo’ Institutional Education No. 1073.
‘Santa Elena de Piedritas’ Educational Institution
Since 2005, we are committed to improving educational services of Santa Elena de Piedritas Educational Institution to promote the development of children within our area of influence. It all started with a multi-grade class which has now turned into a school with appropriate environments to provide education from pre-school to sixth grade of primary school. At the beginning of 2017, after the damages caused by ‘El Niño’ Phenomenon, we improved its sport centre by implementing dressing rooms, reinforcing structures and painting it. Furthermore, we installed signage and extinguishers and shut areas that were dangerous for children. In order to improve educational quality, we continued providing economic support so that children and teachers have access to transport. In addition, we continued training in the vegetable garden.
Talks on electrical safety at home and fire prevention
During 2017, residents of the Piedritas village were trained on safety and prevention of electrical hazards at home and the street, with the aim of mitigating incidents in households due to the bad use of electrical energy. Likewise, we received the support of specialists to prevent forest fires caused by burning trash, which is a common practice in the area and endangers dry forests.
Educational scholarships
This initiative was created to ensure that children of the Santa Elena Educational Institution continue their secondary school studies, as they do not have access to this important part of education due to diverse social and economic reasons. The educational scholarships were granted prior an academic and psycho-pedagogical evaluation to the 4 candidates and a socioeconomic evaluation to their families performed by the secondary school where the grant holders will be enrolled. In 2017, two girls received this benefit, whose main requirement is to obtain a minimum average of 14 throughout the year.
