Since 2006, Dr. José Antonio Vargas Lleras has been president of Codensa and Emgesa, currently Enel Colombia, a public services company, leader in energy generation and distribution. As of 2016, he is the director of Enel Américas, the company responsible for controlling the group's investments in Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica and Guatemala.
For more than 20 years, Doctor Vargas has been linked to energy companies, especially in the gas, coal and electricity industries. Between 1999 and 2006 he was general manager of the Bogotá Energy Company (EEB).
At the international level, he has been vice president and president of the Regional Energy Integration Commission (CIER); In the same way, he is president of the Programs Committee of the World Energy Council and president of the Colombian Committee of the WEC. Likewise, he is president of the Italian Chamber of Commerce for Colombia.
Doctor Vargas has also been Secretary General of the Presidency of the Government of Colombia, Ambassador of his country to the European Union, the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Commercial Representative of the Government of Colombia in Spain and Mediterranean Europe.
Doctor Vargas Lleras is a lawyer, specializing in Business Law and Public Services, as well as Corporate Finance. He has been a university professor for more than 20 years, and is currently a professor in the Economic Law Department of the Externado University. Since 2017 he is a member of the Colombian Institute of Corporate Governance, of which he is a founder.
